If combing through a thrift store for one-of-a-kind vintage finds sounds like the perfect way to spend an afternoon — you’re going to love these cottagecore bedroom ideas. Cottagecore is basically the opposite of modern or minimalist style. When done successfully, it emanates the feeling of a cozy cottage perfect for curling up with a good book and a cup of tea.

    What Is Cottagecore?

Cottagecore design is a mix of vintage, farmhouse and eclectic decor. We spoke to interior designer Mimi Wilson to tell us more. “Cottagecore is like a well-done ratatouille; it’s simple, rustic, bright, and comforting,” says Wilson. “The items that make the room beautiful also make it functional, giving the impression of being homemade, homegrown, and locally sourced.”

    Cottagecore Must Haves

When decorating a cottagecore bedroom, it is not the time to hold back. Fill the room with antique furniture, patterned wallpaper, soft blankets and pillows, and vintage accessories. “Every cottagecore bedroom must have a few lamps that create a warm ambiance. Overhead lighting can be too jarring in the bedroom for this type of design,” says Wilson, “In addition, fresh flowers or plants.”

How To Make a Cottagecore Bedroom

We’ve gathered some of our favorite cottagecore bedrooms to inspire you to create your own. When choosing textiles Wilson says to stick to “florals, stripes, and gingham to soften your rustic surroundings.”

    Pattern Play

When it comes to cottagecore, the more patterns the better! In this bedroom from @katierosenfeld, the wallpaper, lamp shade, pillows and coverlet all feature different patterns and colors. This technique gives off the impression that the contents of the room were collected over time. A well-placed piece of art featuring all the colors can help tie in the various textiles.

What We Like About It: The natural color palette. “You can be bold, but the patterns are typically minimal, and the colors are borrowed from nature,” says Wilson.

    Cozy Bedding

In this cottagecore bedroom from @ruefer.heartandhome, it’s all about the bedding. Layers of blankets and plenty of pillows make this room a homey haven. Contrasting prints are at play in the rug and the curtains for a lovely mix of patterns — a key ingredient of cottagecore design.

What We Like About It: The welcoming bed! “Soft fabrics, pillows, and throw blankets are must-haves to add an element of homemade comfort,” says Wilson.

    Homemade Touches

In this cozy bedroom corner, @jamiewardtv demonstrates how to execute the cottagecore aesthetic perfectly. Vintage furniture, greenery and homemade artwork combine to create this little seating area. Designing different relaxing vignettes in your bedroom (like a bench at the end of the bed or a cheerful reading corner) further establishes those cottage vibes.

What We Like About It: The DIY handwritten artwork. “When designing around this aesthetic, it’s essential to convey a sense of simple living — taking it back to the basics, if you will,” says Wilson.

    Spring Colors

Although we love a mixmatched cottagecore room, that doesn’t mean you can’t use a more intentional color palette. In this bedroom from @johnstonparkeinteriors, blue and yellow are the dominant colors. The yellow gingham headboard ties in perfectly with the yellow flowers on the wallpaper. Mix patterns to keep the space from looking too matchy and help achieve that collected cottage look.

What We Like About It: The cheerful colors, especially that yellow gingham! Wilson says to “think fresh spring colors” when designing cottagecore,

The pop of burnt orange in the bed canopy adds visual interest, and makes the whole room feel even more dreamy.

    Calming Neutrals

You might shy away from cottagecore design if all the colors and patterns overwhelm you. But as shown here by @helloimaubs, you can have a calming, neutral space that’s still true to cottagecore concepts. The main components of the room are the beige gingham bedding and creamy white walls. Add cottage-inspired character with trim work and vintage accessories.

What We Like About It: It’s classic cottage aesthetic without being cluttered. The white, cream and beige textiles feel homey and timeless.

    Playful Florals

We’ve established that cottagecore bedrooms include plenty of patterns, often floral or nature-inspired. Watch as @emilywelchstyle brings this idea to life in her cottagecore bedroom. You’ll see floral sheets, a floral rug, floral artwork, dusty pink walls and breezy window treatments. Can we move in?

What We Like About It: The mix of sweet floral prints and layers of soft textiles. Bonus points for those window fairy lights!

@littlehomebigliving Our primary bedroom is now done and it’s never felt more like home, to say I’m utterly obsessed is an understatement🥹 I’m forever grateful for @artzaco_ for this collaboration and for helping to make this room into an entire different vibe! They offer a WIDE variety of peel and stick wallpapers perfect for any home, style, and space. (And perfect for renters like me!) I chose the Petite Verdure wallpaper from the Villa Rustica Collection in the color Rain! Their wallpapers are eco-friendly and made with synthetic fibers for strength and durability! Also tear and scratch resistant! Some of my favorite things about their wallpaper is that it has texture, so easy to install, and they provide step-by-step directions if you’re a beginner like me! Go click the link in my stories and highlights to check out all their wallpaper collections they offer and transform your space in a matter of minutes!🤍 And thank you thank you thank you @artzaco_ 🥹 • • • • • • #gifted #collaboration #ad #artzaco #wallpaper #makeover #diy #diyhomedecor #roommakeover #primarybedroom #bedroomdecor #bedroom #homedecor #home #antique #vintage #interiordesign #farmhouse #cottage #cottagecore #cottagehome #oldhouse #cottagestyle #cottagelife #dailyreels #reels #transitionreels ♬ so this is love – soft girl aesthetic

    Renter-Friendly Cottagecore

You can make your cottagecore bedroom dreams come true even if you’re a renter! Opt for peel-and-stick wallpaper, like this example from @littlehomebigliving that you can easily peel off without damaging the walls. The blue and white floral wallpaper gives this room a whole new look, along with finishing details in the vintage accessories and warm lamp lighting.

What We Like About It: The floral pattern on the walls is interesting without being too overbearing, and the pattern is nicely balanced with the solid bedding choices.
