Christmas is right around the corner and the recipes for cookies and gingerbread will be flooding out Pinterest feeds soon, so I wanted to think a little outside the box and came up with these easy to make Cinnamon Rolls with Gingerbread Cream Cheese Frosting.
I know that’s a mouthful but trust me, they’re so easy. You’ll have these cinnamon rolls done from prep to oven in less than 25 minutes. The secret ingredients in these new favorite Christmas desserts are the crescent rolls. A few months ago I was inspired by Stacie’s Mini Rum Butter Cinnamon Rolls and created my own Pumpkin Pie Cinnamon Rollsover on The Bewitchin’ Kitchen.
There are so many things you can do with crescent rolls. I’ve made hand pies, turnovers, and cinnamon rolls. All you have to do is simply pinch together the seams, lay out the melted butter and pack on the cinnamon mixture. (PS – the leftover cinnamon mixture makes a really nice hand scrub after, like this Chocolate Sugar Scrub).

The gingerbread cream cheese frostingismy recipe for Gingerbread Dessert Dip (from The Bewitchin’ Kitchen) but cut in half. I knew it would work beautifully for these cinnamon rolls and I was right.
These cinnamon rolls are so easy to put together. Crescent rolls, butter, sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon is all the makes up the rolls themselves and the gingerbread cream cheese frosting recipe is a creamy, holiday infused topping. If you want to add a little extra gingerbread to the recipe, you cansprinkle crushed gingerbread over top of the frosting.

Do you need to refrigerate cinnamon rolls? Unfrosted cinnamon rolls do not need to be refrigerated and will keep best at room temperature. Iced cinnamon rolls, and especially rolls with cream cheese frosting, should be stored in the fridge.
It's easy to make any day cinnamony sweet with Pillsbury's ready-to-bake dough made with real cinnamon and premade cream cheese icing. These refrigerated cinnamon rolls make a great weekday breakfast or special holiday treat.
Beat on low speed for 30 seconds, then switch to high speed and beat for 1 minute. Spread the icing over the warm rolls and serve immediately. Cover leftover frosted or unfrosted rolls tightly and store at room temperature for up to 2 days or in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
Most cinnamon rolls have a royal icing on them which doesn't have dairy, so there's really no need to refrigerate them. Even rolls with cream cheese icing would be fine for a day or two because of the 10x sugar. Confectioner's sugar (10x) contains corn starch.
At room temperature, cream cheese frosting only lasts two hours, which is why it needs to be refrigerated if you don't want to waste leftovers. Cream cheese frosting will usually last in the refrigerator for up to a week, which gives you plenty of time to use it on various baked goods.
Can cinnamon rolls rise for too long? Yes definitely! If you let your cinnamon rolls rise for too long you can over-proof them. This can lead to dense rolls or rolls that collapse after baking.
ONLY add as much flour as needed to handle the dough. It's better for the dough to be sticky at the start than to add too much flour and wind up with dense rolls, instead of light and fluffy ones.
Dump your canned frosting into a large mixing bowl with a hand mixer or into the bowl of an electric mixer and whip it up. Without even adding any other ingredients, this will aerate the frosting for a fluffier consistency.
Frosting is the thickest of the bunch, thanks to (usually) employing something creamy in the makeup—such as butter, whipping cream, or cream cheese. Icing generally uses cream or egg whites as a thickener, but tends to be more liquid when applied and hardens as it dries.
Cinnamon rolls have a great shelf live. They stay good at room-temperature for up to 2 days, in the fridge for up to a week, and in the freezer for up to 2 months if stored properly. What is this? Store them in an airtight container or wrap them tightly with plastic wrap.
Instead of letting the rolls rise at room temperature and baking them, you'll cut and arrange the rolls in the baking pan, tightly cover them with plastic wrap, immediately transfer them to the fridge and let them rest overnight. (Do not leave them out at room temperature for any longer than needed.)
The heavy cream absorbs the cinnamon, sugar, and butter that leaks from the insides of the rolls as they bake to create a glorious cinnamon sugar syrup for the bottom of your rolls.
Cream cheese frosting will hold its decorative piped shape if you refrigerate it prior to piping. Fit your piping bag with a piping tip, fill your bag with the frosting, then refrigerate it for 20-30 minutes before piping. However, don't expect it to be as sturdy as buttercream.
Soft cheeses such as cream cheese, cottage cheese, shredded cheeses, and goat cheese must be refrigerated for safety. As a general rule, hard cheeses such as cheddar, processed cheeses (American), and both block and grated Parmesan do not require refrigeration for safety, but they will last longer if kept refrigerated.
To store a buttercream cake overnight, use plastic wrap to cover all areas of your cake and store it at room temperature in a container. If your cake is frosted with cream cheese or ganache, make sure to cover it and keep it in an airtight container in the fridge. Covering your cake prevents the air from making it dry.
