INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Pour heavy whipping cream, sugar and vanilla into a medium bowl and whisk on high speed until medium to stiff peaks form. Set aside. This recipe is so much easier with an electric mixer! We love our Kitchenaid Stand Mixer! Or, if you are looking for a less expensive option, this 6 Qt Kucco Stand Mixer gets great reviews!
  2. In a large bowl, whisk milk, vanilla and pudding mix for 2 minutes (mixture will be thick). Fold in 3 cups of your whipping cream.
  3. Pour 1-1/3 cups of pudding mixture into pie crust. Layer with banana slices and remaining pudding mixture. Top with remaining whipped topping and garnish with additional banana slices if desired. Refrigerate until serving.

How Long Will A No Bake Banana Cream Pie Last?

Your No Bake Banana Cream Pie should last about 3 days when kept in the refrigerator. Always keep it covered with a plastic lid, aluminum foil or plastic wrap as much as possible. We all know that bananas can brown quickly. If your worried about them browning while you are making the pie or during its presentation, you can always treat them with some citric juice, lemon and lime juice work great.

Can You Use Banana Pudding In Banana Cream Pie?

Yep! We use Vanilla Pudding in our recipe. But you can substitute for another pudding flavor if you’d like. French Vanilla would work. Or even Banana Pudding for an even stronger banana flavor!

Do You Have To Use Homemade Whipping Cream?

Nope! You can just buy and thaw some Cool Whip and this recipe will be just fine. It’s a great shortcut if you are short on time!

Other Variations

If it’s important to you, you can always substitute in your favorite homemade pie crust recipe. I know that some people are pretty picky about using a homemade crust! You can also use an chocolate or Oreo Cookie Crust.

You can also put some fun toppings on your banana cream pie to liven things up even more. Some ideas would be:

  • COCONUT FLAKES
  • MINI CHOCOLATE CHIPS
  • CHOCOLATE SHAVINGS
  • OREO COOKIES (CRUSHED)
  • VANILLA WAFERS

I have made this pie for a decade or 2 and it has always set. Could the problem be. too much milk? I have even cur back on the milk to support the weight of the banana slices . At most I advise using a total of 2 cups milk. You can cut back on the milk to no less than 1 1/4 cups milk, make the pudding, and add a scoop of the whipped cream to the mix for flavour and volume. Mix in cut bananas pour into crust, smooth a bit, add whipped cream topping, let set and enjoy!

        Hi,

I am not a baker and almost made an oops with my pie filling. I realized I bought “cook & serve” pudding mix. So I had to cook pudding and cool (before putting in whipping cream) and this thickened it before doing remaining recipe. Not sure if this may have been the issue. However, mine is perfect and really good.
        Hope this helped!

There is an error in your printed directions. For the whipped cream, it says ” 4 powdered sugar” and it needs to have tablespoons. Made the mistake of using 4 cups 😣.

Its 3 cups of the whipped cream, after whipping the 2 cups of liquid heavy cream there should be at least 4 cups of whipping cream.

I mashed 2 bananas and added that to vanilla pudding. I followed the rest of the recipe to a t and it did not set. Would the bananas be the reason it was a liquid instead of a pie?

    Reply

    • Kathy says

That could be. If there is too much moisture the filling wouldn’t set.

You prepared the pudding filling until thick and folded it with the whipped cream and it didn’t set? That is strange.

This was such a great dessert! I’d never had banana cream pie, but made it by request from my boyfriend and what a treat! I like the way the layers come together. On top, I put banana slices around the edges, with an inner circle of chocolate chips and a few more bananas in the middle. It was pretty and delicious. Addressing the readers’ comments above, I didn’t have any issue with it “setting.” I used a hand mixer and beat the whipping cream until it formed stiff peaks, and beat the pudding mixture till it was pudding-like, but only knew to do this from experience working with whipping cream. If you’re using a hand held whisk, like the instructions insinuate, I don’t think you could get anywhere near a whipped cream – you really need a hand mixer or standing mixer. Hope this helps the next reader!
