Cathy Adams

CHERAW – Cathy Adams, a cherished member of the Cheraw community, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2024, at the age of 67. Born in Franklin, NC on December 27, 1956, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Max and Sue Holland.

Cathy was a dedicated Administrative Assistant in the healthcare sector, where she made a significant impact at Tri-County Mental Health. An avid crafter, she found joy in sewing, reading, and playing games on her computer. Cathy adored her grandchildren and found immense happiness in spending time with them.
Her kindness, generosity, and gentle spirit touched the lives of all those who had the privilege of knowing her. Cathy was also a member of Cash Baptist Church.

Along with her parents, listed above, Cathy was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Holland and a sister, Donita Linton.

Cathy leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 39 years, Timothy Adams of the home; a son, Bradley Pitman (Erica) of Society Hill, SC; a daughter, Heather Caulder (Chuck) of Bennettsville, SC; sisters, Donna Gouge (Dean) of Bakersville, NC and Connie McKinney of Cheraw, SC; grandchildren, Martina Deas, Marisa Pitman, Harley Caulder, Tyson Caulder, Kennedy Caulder, and Rayna Caulder; a brother-in-law, David Linton; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, June 3, 2024, at Kiser Funeral Home. The family received friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. just prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, Finance Department, 30 East 33rdStreet, New York, NY 10016.

Gerald Elliott Brock

Gerald Elliott Brock age 70 went to his Heavenly Home at his residence with his loving family by his side on May 26, 2024. Gerald was born in Chesterfield ,a son of Olivia Teal Brock and the late Elliott S. Brock.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 4:00 at the First Baptist Church of Pine Ridge. Rev. Wayne Cash, Rev. Perry Kelly, Chaplain Paula Mullen and Mary McElveen officiated. Burial was in the First Baptist Church of Pine Ridge Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation was Tuesday 5-7 pm at the funeral home.

Gerald was a graduate of Hartsville High School Class of 1972. He retired from DSS after 25 years of service, was a Deacon at the First Baptist Church of Pine Ridge, was a member of the Lake Robinson Rescue Squad, Chaplain of the Darlington County Fire Department Station 8. Gerald was a devoted Christian and gave away some 2000 Bibles. He went on several Mission Trips with Lakeview Baptist Church and loved dressing up and playing Sparky Fire Prevention Dog.

Surviving is his mother, Olivia Teal Brock, Hartsville; one sister Lynn (David) Guest, Hartsville; two brothers, Terry (Rebecca) Brock, Hartsville and Robbin Brock, Hartsville; six nephews, Mike Brock (Caroline Beasley), Rocky (Brittany) Caddell, Jason Guest, Thor Caddell, Quill Caddell and Parker Caddell; three nieces; April Davis, Polly Teal and Rowan Caddell; he was waiting on his great-great niece’s arrival; two special friends Pat and Van Hewitt, Hartsville.

He was preceded in death by his father Elliott S. Brock.

Anyone associated with a Rescue Squad or Fire Department was asked to wear your Rescue or Fire Shirt.

Memorials may be made to the Pediatric Leukemia Research, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741 or to the First Baptist Church of Pine Ridge, 3901 West BoBo Newsome Highway, Hartsville, S.C. 29550. The family would like to give a special thank you to the Pruitt Hospice for loving care during Gerald’s illness especially Mary and Trena and his caregivers, Cheryl and Annette.

Amy C. Driggers

CHERAW – Mrs. Amy Ellen Driggers, a cherished member of the Cheraw community, passed away on May 27, 2024, at the age of 81. Born on February 28, 1943, in Cheraw, SC, she was a beloved wife, a dedicated churchgoer, and a caring soul who touched the lives of many through her kindness and generosity.
Amy was a devoted member of Westside Baptist Church, where she found solace and belonging. She shared her musical talents by singing in the church choir and served on the maintenance committee, demonstrating her commitment to her faith community. In her free time, she enjoyed antique hunting with her husband and nurtured her passion for cooking and gardening.
Her love extended beyond her family as she adored babysitting her grandchildren and neighborhood children, bringing joy and laughter to their lives. Amy took great pleasure in attending sports events for her children and grandchildren, always cheering them on with pride and enthusiasm.
Amy’s vibrant spirit and unwavering faith will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and dedication that will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.

Amy was preceded in death by her parents, John Clifton and Ruby Amerson Chapman; a brother, John Thomas “Sam” Chapman; sisters, Sara Frances Chapman, and Margaret Patty Driggers; and a brother-in-law, Arthur Caulder, Jr.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband, Claude Lawrence “Sonny” Driggers of the home; sons, Jeffery Allen Hunter (Debbie) of Cheraw, SC, Gary Clifton Hunter of Chesterfield, SC, and Michael Scott Hunter (Adena) of Cheraw, SC; a brother, Howard Clifton “Bucky” Chapman (Kaye) of Cheraw, SC; sisters, Odessa Jean Caulder of Cheraw, SC and Janie C. Caulder (Tharen) of Cheraw, SC; a sister-in-law, Katie Chapman of Cheraw; step-children, Jeffrey L. Driggers (Tina) of Laurinburg, NC, Kimberly Ann Driggers of Laurinburg, NC, and Stephanie Farber of Selina, KS; grandchildren, Christopher Blake Hunter of Washington, Tabitha Catherine Hunter (Tyler Colburn) of Huntsville, AL, Meagan Taylor Weatherford (Trey) of Tampa, FL, and Chandler Hunter of Cheraw, SC; step-grandchildren, Kayla Currie (K.C.), Lindsay Paige Watson, and Austin Kyle Blackhorse; a great grandson, Bryson Hunter; step-great grandchildren, Emily Grace Currie, Mason Watson, Maddie Ann Watson, and McKinnon Watson; special nieces, Diane Jordan and Sharon Chewning; and special friends, Allen Poston and Loretta Flemming.
A memorial service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 31, 2024 at Westside Baptist Church in Cheraw, SC. The family received friends from 10:00 until 11:00 just prior to the service at the church.

Marion Patricia Chapman Huff

HARTSVILLE – It is with deep sorrow that the Huff family announces the death of their beloved mother, Mrs. Marion Patricia Chapman Huff, 92. Mrs. Huff, the widow of Carl Hicks Huff, Jr., entered into rest on Monday, May 27, 2024. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family. A funeral service to honor her life was held at 11 o’clock on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, in St. Luke United Methodist Church. The Rev. Todd Davis officiated with burial following in Magnolia Cemetery. The family received friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to St. Luke United Methodist Church, 302 Dunlap Drive, Hartsville, SC 29550, or the co*ker University Memorial Fund, 300 E. College Avenue, Hartsville, SC 29550. Mrs. Huff was born on June 19, 1931, in Cheraw, SC. She was the daughter of the late Henry Elmer Chapman and the late Mary Della Linton Chapman. Graduating from Cheraw High School in 1949, she received the honor of valedictorian. She furthered her education, securing her college degree from co*ker College in 1953. There she was editor of the newspaper and Milestone yearbook. After completing her English degree, she began her teaching career at Hartsville Junior High School, where she taught English for twenty-one years. As a lifelong fan of the Hartsville Red Foxes, she drew much joy in cheering on each team. She was a devoted charter member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School, was involved in Vacation Bible School, was an MYF Leader, and was a member of the Genesis Bible Study Sunday School Class. She is survived by her daughters, Brenda (Keith) Stewart of Marion, SC, Paddy Huff of Hodges, SC, Nancy Caulder of Marion, SC; grandchildren, Ansley Stewart (Brandon) Wilson, Erin Stewart (Dusty) Floyd, Jeremy (Sarah) Huff, Trish Godbold (Joseph Daniel) Barteet and Elliott Godbold; great-grandchildren, Braden and Karlie McCurry, Luke and Emmie Huff, Stewart and Beckett Wilson, Asher and Andi Floyd, Addie and Asa Barteet. In addition to her parents and her late husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Henry Dewitte Chapman, Mary Edna Chapman, Sandra Elizabeth Chapman, James Elmer Chapman; granddaughter, Emilea Huff McCurry. Dear to her were her church’s XYZ Group and the Mary Ann McCullough Circle. Her dedication to the co*ker College Alumni Association was an integral part of her life, receiving the Distinguished Alumni of the Year Award. Being a member of various bridge groups and playing Words With Friends were avenues she enjoyed to connect with friends — old and new. Patricia, Pat, Mom, Mammy, Mrs. Huff was a loving wife, devoted mother, doting grandmother and great-grandmother as well as a loyal friend and teacher to many.
